Meadow In A Can

The result of millions of billions of genetic combinations. Resulting in this particular being. Still asking the same question. Which is - What does all of this mean? My brain cells are trying to impose some sort of order on top of chaos. Attempting to make sense out of nonsense. Finding patterns that will ease the ego. Random chaos is not meaningless, just sporadic.

The Greatest Social Experiment Ever Known To Man

I and many others have had the privilage of being born in one of, if not the greatest social experiments ever known to man. This is America.

It is our responsibility to take the legacy handed down by our forebears, guard it, and then pass it on to other generations.

I see our liberties being watered down or stripped away by those who swore to uphold those same ideals. All in the name of meaningless jingoistic slogans, and the Almighty profit margin, unlimited, and unsustainable economic growth by paper entities which have the same legal rights as flesh and blood. Entities which have the same psychological makeup as a psychopath.

I see a system entrenched and calcified. Unable to evolve to the will of "We the People". I choose to voice my dissatisfaction with those who are not serving me and do not have my best interests in mind. They are most interested in padding their pockets and job security every 6 years.

I see an oligarchy posing as the voice of "We the people" most of whom have never gone hungry or wanted for anything in their lives.

I see my hard earned money going to feed a military industrial complex which is, in it's very existance an abhorance to me, whilst starving those services which serve our fellow human beings. Our humanitarian obligations.

I choose to side with those who stood up against despotism when they saw it, and spoke out, inspite of the cost to themselves.

I will not be cowed by petty tyrants, fearmongers, those who spew propaganda and call into question my love of country, to further a twisted agenda of war and destruction which benefits a handful at the expense of many.

Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Thomas Paine, et. all, are infinately cooler than Bush, Cheney, and Corporate America anyhow.

An Ailing Democracy

We must get corporate money out of our political system if we are ever to heal our democracy. Until that happens, any meaningful programs/agendas will continue to be comprimised and the least possible done. We will only continue to be able to build foundations, or preserve those already built. It is not in the best interest of corporate america for humanitarian obligations to be fulfilled as it cuts into the next fiscal quarter and multi million dollar CEO salaries. these corporations have more money than most foreign countries. HOw can the average america compete for their voice against such a golliath? this is why there is such disenfranchisement, and civic apathy amongst people of my generation and younger. they know they won't be served. Why should they bother? In addition to that, the capitalist economic system makes you ask always "what's in it for me?" It destroys the capacity for community. We still do retain that to an extent here in Iowa, it is being slowly eaten away. We must get campaign finance reform in place. Unless that happens, the cancer will continue to spread thoughout the political system until there is no democracy left. Only a fascist nightmare, which would make Orwell and Huxley shudder. How can I look my children in the face and tell them how I let their birthright slip away? We can do better. We must, as this great social experiment that is america is in danger of expiring. leaving only the shadow of once "what was"
